Memorial Day Weekend in Estes Park offers the three day Art Market, Nature Birdwalk, Western Heritage Antique Show, and Trail Ridge Road Travel. Memorial Day Weekend is significant in many ways it is a time of remembrance for all those who sacrificed their lives that we may live in this beautiful free country. It marks the end of school and beginning of summer with all its glorious possibilities. It is the time to get away for a long weekend and celebrate. The forecast for the weekend is gorgeous weather, fun, food and adventure.
Estes offers wonderful opportunities for fun. The Art Market is one of the premire art shows in Colorado. It is my favorite art show of the year. There are venders from all over offering jewelry, leather goods, ceramic, photography, woodcarvers, oil paintings and much more. Richard and Helen Hahn (Richard's pictures grace every wall at the Anniversary Inn) will have a special booth of photograhs filled with both old favorities and new spectacular wildlife and landscapes (www.AlpenlowImages.info). Richard is also hosting a complimentary Nature Birdwalk in the National Park on Friday and Sunday mornings at 8:00am at the west end parking lot of the Alleuvial Fan. Richard who is a National Park volunteer is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, birds and flora and fauna. He is a wonderful teacher and host. Nature lovers it is also a good time to see the Big Horn Sheep as they are seen almost daily at the Sheep Lakes.
The Western Heritage Anitique Show has expanded to include spectacular artwork from artists both local and from afar. It features over 45 booths with an array of antiques and collectibles that include rare glass, books, primatives, jewelry, western memorablia, paintings, sculptures, fine antiques, woodburning stoves and more. It will be held in Stanley Park all three days and proceeds will go to the Rooftop Rodeo Fund.
Trail Ridge Road www.rmnp.com) opened early this year due to all the beautiful weather we have been having. It opened May 14. We have had enough rain to green the grasses and bring forth an abundance of wildflowers. Trail Ridge Road is the Highest continuous paved highway in the United States. A trip over Trail Ridge Road will provide you with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, alpine terrain, wildlife and for those of you who may be a little scared of heights a cheap thrill.
Come and stay with us for the Memorial Day Weekend and enjoy all that Estes has to offer. We are offering a 10% Discount on rooms for anyone who mentions the Blog when they make their reservation through May. Helen is also offering a 10% Discount to those who mention the Blog when they purchase something at her booth or her shop Alpenglow.
Hope to see you this weekend.
